A Day of Friendship, Passion, and Unforgettable Moments

At Worth a Haven, every day is filled with learning, laughter, and hard work. Students prepare for exams, enjoy games during breaks, and teachers and volunteers come together to shape a brighter future. But last month, one event stood out, filling our hearts with excitement and school spirit—the much-anticipated friendly match against Kirembe Primary School (KPS) on March 21st.

The Challenge is Set

Two weeks prior, an ambassador from WAH carried an invitation to KPS, proposing a spirited competition. The response was immediate and enthusiastic! The schools agreed to face off in three thrilling events: a netball match for girls, a football match for boys, and a lively debate for all. With the memory of last year’s friendly rivalry still fresh, the excitement was electric as preparations kicked off.

For days, students poured their energy into perfecting their debate arguments, refining game strategies, and selecting the best players. Finally, the big day arrived. As we stepped onto KPS grounds, music blasted from a DJ booth, sending waves of excitement through the crowd of nearly 500 students and teachers. The sun shone bright, and the air buzzed with anticipation—this was going to be a day to remember!

Heated Words and Fierce Play

The event opened with the debate, tackling the motion: "National parks should be cleared for settlement." KPS passionately defended the motion, while WAH stood firm in opposition. As speakers presented their arguments, the crowd erupted in cheers and gasps, students eagerly challenging each other with sharp rebuttals and thought-provoking questions. The energy was electric! After an intense exchange, the judges ruled it a draw—a fitting testament to the passion and preparation on both sides. With competition in full swing, it was time for the games.

The football and netball matches kicked off simultaneously, with students and teachers cheering from every corner of the field. With the debate ending in a tie, both teams were determined to bring home a win. In football, the minutes ticked by in tense anticipation—until suddenly, a WAH player sent the ball flying into the opponent's goal! The crowd went wild! Students and teachers rushed onto the field, jumping, cheering, and celebrating the hard-fought goal. As the game resumed, both sides fought fiercely, every player giving it their all. The match was a whirlwind of energy, skill, and pure determination.

Meanwhile, on the netball court, the competition was just as fierce. The teams exchanged points in a gripping back-and-forth battle, but as the match wore on, KPS gained the upper hand, outmaneuvering WAH with smart tactics. Despite our players’ relentless efforts, the final score stood at 5-2 in favor of KPS. For a moment, disappointment hung in the air—but not for long. On the football field, WAH had secured a thrilling 2-1 victory! The final whistle blew, and the crowd exploded into a wave of jubilation. The netball loss was quickly forgotten because WAH had won the football match, and the joy was unstoppable!

A Celebration to Remember

As we made our way back home, the celebrations continued. Students from both schools sang, cheered, and relived the day’s highlights, their voices echoing with pride and camaraderie. It had been a day of passion, perseverance, and teamwork—a much-needed break from textbooks and exams. But more than anything, it was a day of unity, sportsmanship, and unforgettable memories.
